The saying that ‘another person’s trash is another’s treasure’ couldn’t be more true about a gross side hustle that can be quick money for those with a strong stomach. Removing a dead animal from a stranger’s house might sound like a horrible Saturday activity, but some might jump at the opportunity for the right price.
Aussies have been using Airtasker to see if anyone is available to help them get rid of dead rats from various places in their homes. They’re offering upwards of $150 for the seemingly easy task.
“No matter how unusual or specific the task you need help with is, there’s a good chance you’ll find someone on Airtasker who’s ready to help straight away,” Airtasker founder and CEO Tim Fung said.
“People are making money in obscure ways and our Taskers are going above and beyond helping find solutions for their customers.”
Over the past few months, people have offered anywhere between $80 to $150 for the task, which can be done in just a few minutes.
Sydney-based resident Gerard listed the job for $95.
“There’s a dead rat under my kitchen sink, stuck on a glue trap,” he wrote in the ad.
“I’ve been trying to hype myself up all day to get rid of it but I just can’t do it. I can provide a broom, gloves, mask, shoe box, and garbage bag.”
Kate had a similar problem and offered $80 to the hero who could get the task done.
“My corgi has killed a rat or small possum and has put the dead body in her bed/kennel,” she wrote.
“I need it gone asap! It’s just lying there on the bed. I think it would be a 5-10 min job as you could fold the bed in half to dispose of it easily.”
Daniel was giving $250 to someone who could safely remove a dead rat or possum from his ceiling, however, that might require someone with particular skills to ensure the property isn’t damaged.
Other three-figure offers to remove dead rats were located in tricky-to-access parts of the house like under a bathtub that was sealed off or under a kitchen cabinet.
These ones might take a little longer than 10 minutes but they still offer attractive pay days.
If removing dead animals isn’t your vibe then there are plenty of zero-skill jobs that people need done.
Charlotte Cussell, 22, and Kaitlin Domski, 28, jumped on the Airtasker platform to get someone to pick up a couch for them, but they quickly discovered there was money to be made.
