Gesher Human Services is offering tips and two free online workshops to help people enjoy the holidays while minimizing debt
Some tips:
• Plan a realistic holiday budget to set spending limits.
• Make a complete list of spending limits for each person on the gift list.
• Consider creative gifts such as exchanging services, shopping at thrift stores.
• Look for sales and coupons to limit spending.
• Plan to shop for next year during post-holiday sales.
• Use gift cards you receive to purchase needed household items rather than luxury items.
Gesher will host two virtual workshops, “Enjoy the Holidays, Not the Debt: A Guide to Minimal Credit Usage” at 1 p.m. Friday Dec. 5 and Friday, Dec. 12.
Gesher’s Financial Education Manager Laltsha Cunningham said the sessions offer easy-to-implement strategies to minimize credit card usage.
The workshops also offer a series of healthy spending habits that can be used any time of the year.
The sessions are free but registration is required at www.geshermi.org/events.
For workshop details, call (248) 233-4422 or email lcunningham@geshermi.org.
