ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Atlanta residents are leading the country in their search for ways to generate extra income.

A new study done by Ninja Transfers revealed that Atlanta ranks No. 1 in the U.S. for people searching for second jobs, or “side-hustle” opportunities.

About 80 different job titles were examined for searches that included them, such as “how to make money with [job],” “does [job] pay well” and “job [gig],” over the last year.

According to the study, Atlanta recorded an average of 1,914 monthly searches for side-hustle-related terms. That’s about 384 searches per 100,000 residents, the highest rate in the country.

The top three side hustles according to Google searches in Georgia are podcasting, online tutoring and freelance tutoring.

The study also showed that other southern cities have a high Google search rate for side hustles, as Orlando and Birmingham landed in the top five.

Ninja Transfers says the numbers show “a surge in interest for alternative methods of making money in historically industrial cities.”

“Many Americans nowadays are looking to explore further than the standard 9-to-5,” Ninja Transfers Director of Sales and Operations Victor Ilisco said. “A Bankrate study from back in 2023 found that 39% of Americans have a side hustle, and this number has likely grown since then.”

Ilisco pointed out that side hustles have grown in interest because digital platforms and tools have become more accessible, lowering the barrier to entry.
